Winter 01-03-2010

Hi there!

Oh dear I just realized we nearly missed all of winter with our textual updates. We have an excuse though... ehhm ... ehhm... .. we were hibernating! Yes, that's it, we were hibernating!

Of course weren't but it's not for the lack of winter!
We've had the coldest winter of the century so far and the winter with the most "snow days" for 31 years (something I cannot verify, I will just have to trust daddy on his word) :o).

It was cold alright, at first I didn't want to wear those strange things mommy calls "mittens", but after a few minutes outside in the snow, the numbness in my fingers overcame my fashion sense :o).

As you can see from the pictures and video's that daddy has been uploading the last few weeks you can tell that both Erynn and myself have grown quite a bit. Quite how much we're not sure as I only have to go back to the "consultatiebureau" when I turn two. I promise we'll keep you up to date on the developments.

In the middle of this winter, I started going to school! I love it in the "blue group" at the "Stap voor Stap".

"Stap voor stap" is the name of my school and I love going there. My teachers, miss Anita and miss Thea are very nice and we do wonderful things there.
I have already learned how to write the first letter of my name!

After school, I then go to the "Elmo", where I play with all the other children until mommy or daddy comes to pick me up. I love school and I think you can see that from the pictures too! :o)

It has gotten a lot quieter at the Mikmak, but I still enjoy myself there a lot, playing with clay and mostly: with tools! Bob the Builder has nothing on me. :o)

Bye for now!
Erynn & Aidan

Summer - 26-09-2009

Hi there!

Well it (summer) has come and gone. And for Dutch standards it was a very nice one too. You can see in the photo album that we went to the lake nearby quite often. We enjoyed swimming and playing with sand :o).
Quite a number of things happened this summer really.

Daddy turned 41 and we had a big party where many of Erynn's friends were too.

Then there was the fact that Aidan learned to walk. At first he took two steps at at time, then he took three steps at a time followed by four steps at a time, then he took five steps at a time, then he took six steps at a time.. etcetera etcetera until he was walking! :o)

All joking aside, I can walk pretty well now, and besides that I have proven myself to be a budding mountaineer. Just ask mommy about my climbing skills when it comes to the stove.

More news: you all probably know that I will be going to school when I turn four, but I know already what class I will be in (the blue group) and who will be my teachers ("juf Thea" and "juf Anita").

Well, I guess we'll stop babbling and let you over to the photo and video sections. Please let us know if you like the pictures and movies that mommy and daddy put on-line. After all, we don't seem to get any say in the matter. :o)

Bye for now!

Big - 02-07-2009

Hi there!

Well there's nobody who can accuse me of not growing well enough! I tagged along when mommy and Aidan went to the consultatie bureau and just out of curiosity I was measured as well. I am now 105cm tall, can you believe it?

We haven't taken all that many pictures since we got back from our vacation in South Africa, so unfortunately there aren't any updates to the photo and video sections of the site.
We promise we'll make up for it next time.

It's kind of lonely right now as mommy went to Rome for her work. I really miss her and I had to cry when we dropped her off on Wednesday. Fortunately daddy takes good care of Aidan and me and we get to play in the pool a lot.
Still, I cant wait for mommy to come back on Saturday!

Bye for now!
Erynn

Ouch! - 02-07-2009

Hi there!

News people... I have news! Mommy took me to the consultatie bureau to see how I was progressing. Too bad I can't talk yet otherwise I would have told her myself ;o)

The official stats are on my progress page and the doctor also said I was doing very well. She seemed so nice... and then she took out the syringes again! I remembered those from the previous time so I wasn't happy, but I couldn't do anything about it.
I don't want to talk about it anymore so I'll just say that my bandaid collection has two more additions.

Well, I'm off to get wet in the swimming pool and enjoy the gorgeous weather we've been having.

See you later!
Aidan

Vacation! - 09-06-2009

Hi there!

It's been a long time since our last update, but we have a good excuse: we spent nearly a month in South Africa on vacation (and at my age, that's a significant part of my life!) :o)

Sure Aidan, allow me to chime in as well. We had a wonderful time there. We got to see granny Gerry again, Opa Ricky, Auntie Nova, uncle Lloyd, cousin Amber and all the others, and we even met our newest cousin: Maddison.

You speak for yourself sis, I had never seen most of these people before, but you are right: it was a wonderful time.
I wonder how we got there though. I remember going into things mommy and daddy call aeroplanes, but the next thing I remember was usually being carried by daddy through some sort of tube. ;o)

Nice job changing the subject Aidan, I seem to remember you quite taken by Maddison, there's even video evidence on the site to prove it :o)

Ehm, I seem to remember you being quite impressed by someone too: does the name Edgar ring a bell? I think the video section has some footage of that.

Alright, alright, let's just drop the subject completely. Why don't you tell the visitors about the new photoalbum?

Good idea, I would recommend that you take a few minutes to look at the album, as mommy and daddy got "trigger happy" during the vacation and have published a whapping 114 photo's!

Yes, and the video section has been expanded considerably as well. So get clicking, and see you all soon!

Bye for now, Erynn                See you later, Aidan

Anniversary - 02-05-2009

Hi there!

Well, I did it folks: I made it past the big one. Literally, I am one year old, since yesterday, which is exactly how long mommy and daddy feel it has been since I was born :o)
Yes mom and dad, time flies when you're having fun!

Getting there hasn't always been easy though.. just consider the three vaccination shots I got which I mentioned in my previous entry. Since then I have had a humongous swollen lymph node in my neck, which was very painful and besides that the usual common cold. Fortunately the swelling went down just in time for my birthday party but you can still see it in some of the photos.

Speaking of birthday parties.. I want to take this opportunity to thank all the people who celebrated my birthday with me for the lovely gifts and presents I received. I'm sure I will not be wanting for toys anytime soon! :o)

Apart from all this, excitement is growing in our house as we are preparing for our vacation in Cape Town. It will be great meeting granny Gerry and opa Ricky again and finally meeting the aunts and uncles, nephews and nieces I have heard so much about.
I can tell mommy, daddy and my big sister Erynn are looking forward to the vacation as well.
So, here's to writing the next entry in my diary with a healthy tan and a few more teeth.

See you all later folks!
Aidan

Three plus - 12-04-2009

Hi there!

I'm getting to be one of the big girls at the Mikmak. I am now in a group they call "three plus". This means that we do more and more things to prepare us for the "big school".

There is a cultural project going on where we learn a lot about music etc. I love this because dancing is still one of my biggest hobbies.

As you can see in the video clips I am also a member of a gymnastics club now and I'm loving every minute of it. Every Tuesday mommy or daddy take me to the gym and we have lots of fun and do all sorts of exercises.

I have to be careful though because I tend to be an accident waiting to happen (just like my mom). For example: Last week the entire family went to visit Opa and Oma Elf because it was Opa's birthday.
On the first evening I went to the bathroom but then accidently locked the door. I couldn't get the door open anymore, so daddy and opa had to take the door off its hinges to free me.

The next morning I came down the stairs but didn't listen to mommy and instead of holding the handrail, I walked on the narrowest part of the steps, you can probably guess what happened: I slipped and fell down the last 6 steps.

To top it all off, I had a nasty fall when daddy and I went to play at the playground. I was on top of the playhouse, just looking around before I would go down the slide, when I got too close to the edge of the platform, tripped and then stumbled and fell from the jumping platform, landing flat on the ground.

Obviously I had to cry because it hurt, and I was startled and my nose was bleeding heavily.
Fortunately a very nice man came from his house with tissues and water and helped daddy to clean me up.
The rest of the day I just stayed in Oma's garden, playing with a ball, which luckily didn't prove to be dangerous. :o)

Until next time!

Erynn.

Crawling - 12-04-2009

Hi there!

I'm so proud of myself, I have discovered how to crawl... kind of.
I'm clawing myself forward, with one leg in front of me and one leg kicking behind, sliding over my bum.
It's an unusual technique, but it works for me.
I get around the lounge and kitchen quite well like this and I'm discovering loads of new things. I'm also discovering that there are many things that apparently are not intended for little boys, judging from the am,ount of "No!"'s I hear from mommy and daddy lately

In the period since the last update I have had chickenpox, which obviously wasn't a very nice thing to go through. You can ask my big sister about that too.
I have also had quite a number of colds, but you know me: I'm not letting that get me down, I keep smiling.

That came in quite handy when daddy and I went to the photographer to have my picture taken for my passport, yes folks I'm ready to travel the world now.

I really am, because I also had my shots the last time I went to the "Consultatiebureau". Normally, kids my age get one injection then.. quick little jab in the thigh, cute Disney band-aid and Bob's your uncle.
Not me... I had THREE injections, the regular one, one for Hepatitis (because mommy is from South Africa) and one for Measels because I'm going to South Africa.
As you can imagine, this is one doctors visit I will not fondly remember.
On the upside: My collection of Disney band-aids is alot bigger than other kids'. :o)

Until next time!

Aidan.
